Va. jury awards $1.9 million in construction accident

On a spring day in 2006, Michael Boguess went to help his brother Todd pour concrete at a friend’s house. By that evening, the 39-year-old mill worker found himself lying in a hospital bed, paralyzed from the neck down. After three days of testimony, it took a six-woman, one-man jury only two and a half hours to hand down a verdict of $1,959,971, plus more than $680,000 in interest.

Jury awards $7.87 million in shattered-heel case

Every step Gary Will takes is an excruciatingly painful reminder of the construction site accident four years ago that crushed both his ankles. In 2006, the self-employed truck driver was delivering materials when a crane operator lost control of a fabricated concrete beam. Will was forced to jump off his truck onto the frozen ground, shattering both his heels. Earlier this month, a Minnesota jury awarded Will $7.87 million against the company that employed the crane operator.
