A taxpayer should have included in his gross income a $65,000 wrongful discharge settlement that he received from his former employer – even though he alleged that he suffered mental injuries as a result of the loss of his job, the U.S. Tax Court has ruled in upholding a $16,000 assessment of taxes and penalties.
