A lawyer was not liable for alleged negligence that purportedly caused clients to settle for $574,000 less than they would otherwise have received, the California Court of Appeal has ruled in reversing an award for the former clients.

Where multiple attorneys are co-counsel in a contingent fee agreement, a withdrawing attorney may pursue a quantum meruit claim against his former co-counsel – even if he is barred from pursuing such an action against the former client, the Colorado Supreme Court has ruled.
