WASHINGTON – The Senate has approved legislation that would exempt attorneys and other non-financial industry businesses from controversial Federal Trade Commission regulations designed to combat identity fraud.

WASHINGTON – Dozens of state and local bar associations have joined together in filing an amicus brief in federal court in support of the American Bar Association’s bid to bar the Federal Trade Commission from enforcing its so-called “red flags” regulations against attorneys.

The Federal Trade Commission has decided to delay enforcement of the “red flags” identity theft protection rules until June 1, 2010. The rules had originally been set to go into effect on Nov. 1.
