Supreme Court upholds federal health care law (access required)

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s provision requiring most Americans to maintain “minimum essential” health insurance coverage was a valid exercise of Congress’s power under the Taxing Clause, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday in a divided opinion.
