FDA orders study of medical device approval process (access required)

WASHINGTON -- The Food and Drug Administration has commissioned the Institute of Medicine to study the process by which certain medical devices and are cleared to be marketed in the United States - a process that has been the subject of criticism from consumer advocates, lawmakers and trial lawyers.
