State employers must recognize same-sex couples (access required)

A new state law requires employers in Washington state to treat registered domestic partners the same as married couples for such things as group health insurance coverage, survivorship benefits and leave policies. Unless the new law is overturned by voter initiatives, employers must comply with the changes by July 26, 2009. -Sylvia Hsieh
